Malabar Days is a must-read blog for those who are interested in the history of colonial Malabar. I read somewhere that its writer, Nick Balmer, is a great grand nephew of Thomas Baber, the sub-collector of Thallassery during the days of Pazhassi Raja. Whether this is true or not, his posts are well-researched and detailed. He has also posted copies of original letters and other historic documents that throw light on those dark but interesting times. It is rather ironic that the only verifiable documentary evidence Malayalis have about one of their greatest heroes were written and preserved by the British!
